McGahee in danger of being cut?
Aug 20, 10:24 PM The Baltimore Sun indicates that running back Willis McGahee could be cut before the end of the season.
Fantasy Spin: McGahee, it turns out, has really done little to endear himself to the coaches: not learning plays, poor work ethic, etc. With Ray Rice doing as well as he has so far, it's possible that the Ravens trade McGahee elsewhere, but probably not until 2009. Either way, his value is lowering while Ray Rice's is skyrocketing. View original story

Maxwell out for a month
Aug 20, 8:04 PM The Bengals official web site reports that wide receiver Marcus Maxwell has an undisclosed torn muscle, and is expected to be out for about a month.
Fantasy Spin: Maxwell was in the lead to be the number three receiver, but that job will now fall to Antonio Chatman in all likelihood until Chris Henry is back from suspension. View original story

Aug 20, 7:57 PM Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Demorrio Williams broke a bone in his hand in practice today. He is expected to miss the rest of the preseason.

Lewis has pulled hamstring
Aug 20, 6:56 PM Browns running back Jamal Lewis pulled a hamstring in their preseason game against the Giants on Monday, did not practice Wednesday, and will likely sit out their third preseason game on Saturday, according to a report in the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Fantasy Spin: This is one to keep an eye on, as anyone who has endured Rudi Johnson's hamstring problems can attest. Jason Wright and Jerome Harrison will replace Lewis on Saturday and should be considered as possible handcuffs for owners who draft or have already drafted Lewis. View original story

Several Giants receivers return to practice
Aug 20, 5:00 PM The Newark Star-Ledger reports that New York Giants wide receivers Amani Toomer, Steve Smith, and Mario Manningham all returned to practice today for the first time since their respective injuries.
Fantasy Spin: Smith had groin and hamstring injuries, and he missed a month of practice, but should still be starting the season as the No. 3 guy. Toomer missed some time with a knee injury, but should remain ahead of Domenick Hixon to start. Manningham's quad injury and poor performance before injury assure he is destined to be inactive most games. View original story

Hall to be Rams third receiver
Aug 20, 4:57 PM The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that wide receiver Dante Hall will start the season as the Rams No. 3 receiver over Donnie Avery.
Fantasy Spin: Injury prevented Avery from truly competing, but we find it hard to believe that Hall is the answer in the slot given his body of work. Expect Avery to challenge for the job by midseason. View original story

Titans interested in Horn
Aug 20, 4:55 PM According to the Miami Herald, the agent for wide receiver Joe Horn is claiming that the Tennessee Titans have expressed the most interest in signing his client.
Fantasy Spin: Well, the Titans could use some help at the position, but adding an aging veteran whose skills are vastly diminished is not a very good answer to the problem. Still, it could happen. View original story

Jackson ending holdout
Aug 20, 3:35 PM The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that running back Steven Jackson has decided to end his holdout and will report to the team tonight.
Fantasy Spin: Praise be to the fantasy gods! Owners who hung in there can feel a wave of relief. Those of you savvy enough to buy him low can now freely gloat. He can now be comfortably in your fantasy top-five. The contract still needs to be resolved, and he does owe $408,132 in fines for missing mandatory practices. View original story

Nalen to undergo more knee surgery
Aug 20, 3:16 PM The Denver Post reports that center Tom Nalen will have to undergo more knee surgery this Friday to augment the arthroscopic knee surgery he had in June. He will be out indefinitely.
Fantasy Spin: This does not bode well for the Broncos running game, and it could be the end of Nalen's career at the age of 37. Casey Wiegmann will likely be their new starter at center for the foreseeable future. View original story

Perry new starter in Cincinnati
Aug 20, 3:01 PM According to the Bengals official web site, head coach Marvin Lewis said that if the season were to begin today, Chris Perry would be the starting running back.
Fantasy Spin: A solid preseason coupled with Rudi Johnson's constant hamstring injuries prompted this move. Lewis added that he would have to see a string of practices and a good game performance from Johnson for him to regain his starting job. Perry gets a huge boost in his fantasy value with this news. Johnson is now a weak RB3. View original story

Aug 20, 1:59 PM The Gaston Gazette reports that Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart will get to play some snaps in their third preseason game with the first team offensive line.

Browns trade for Daniels
Aug 20, 1:56 PM The Cleveland Browns have traded for Miami Dolphins defensive back Travis Daniels. They sent an undisclosed draft pick to Miami.
Fantasy Spin: Daniels should challenge Mike Adams and Terry Cousin for the nickelback role, which has been sorely lacking in production this preseason. Daniels could possibly shift to safety, providing an upgrade in their run defense over Brodney Pool.

Boldin continues war with Cardinals
Aug 20, 1:09 PM The Associated Press reports that Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin continues to rail against the Cardinals' management, saying he does not believe that their differences can be resolved.
Fantasy Spin: He's not holding out (yet), and it could be this angst will be good news for owners. He is obviously playing for a new contract with another team, which will require him to continue producing big numbers. He might deserve a small bump in your rankings given the boulder-sized chip he has on his shoulder. View original story
